Steve Bruce To Lead Korea To World Cup Glory

Interesting that Steve Bruce is now being hotly tipped as the next Manager of wait for it - South Korea. It is understandable that the former Birmingham, Wigan and Sunderland boss would want to get away from Wearside but Korea is surely taking it too far.

Geordie boy Bruce was rightly sacked by Sunderland earlier this month after a disastrous run of form and left the club with hardly any experienced forwards in the squad other than Nicholas Bendtner who has just being arrested!

Under Bruce the Black Cats managed just three home wins in 2011 and Bruce has clearly made the most of his trip to South Korea in October on which he was meant to be to promoting SAFC.

South Korea have recently parted company with head coach Cho Kwang-Rae earlier this month following a shock 2-1 World Cup qualifying defeat by Lebanon but have performed well in the past with foreign managers notably when reaching the semi-final of the 2002 World Cup under Guus Hiddink. Should Bruce be appointed he would be expected to secure a place in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The Koreans are currently top of their initial qualifying group on goal difference.

It is hard to imagine that any Premier League clubs would be interested in appointing Bruce even though both Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers could be looking for new managers shortly. South Korea would represent a massive fall from grace for Bruce who was only recently considered as one of the possible successors to Alex Ferguson at Manchester United or as a potential manager of the England national side.
Bruce struggled for a long time at Sunderland and an international job with less consistent intensity could well suit him better than the day to day pressure of managing in the enormus goldfish bowl that the Premier League has become.
